Body Sugaring 101

Is Sugaring The Holy Grail Of Hair Removal?

5 Awkward Brazilian Questions, Answered

Sugaring Over Waxing, Obviously!

Perhaps, you’re planning a vacation that requires one of those cute teeny bikinis. What a stunning choice! You may think that a bikini wax is absolutely essential. Sure, waxing is an effective way to get rid of those stray pesky hairs, but it sure hurts a lot more than sugaring. No peeking hairs out of your string bikini bottoms, here! But, do you really want to put up with that pain? You’ve probably heard many horror stories about waxing. If you’re like me, you’ve only tried a bikini wax once, and never returned due to pain and that annoying sticky residue.

Those waxing horror stories may be true!

Thank goodness, I found a much less painful alternative!

This all happened after listening to my friend rave about sugaring. She raved about how she gets everything done by sugaring. From her legs, to her underarms, sugaring regularly became a must! Finally, I psyched myself up to try this alternative to waxing. The process uses a simple mix of sugar, lemon and water to remove hair. To be honest, this does sound a lot more gentle than boiling hot wax. It’s hard to know what wax may even contain. These were a couple of selling points for me!

My friend recommended I go to Alexandria Body Sugaring and More. With almost 25 years in the biz, I felt pretty confident going in. I was greeted by an incredibly friendly staff member. She seemed to know right away that it was my first time. I immediately felt more comfortable. She walked me through the process and I felt right at home. When we got down to the treatment itself I was wowed. The care that was taken in prepping my skin and my comfort on the table. The atmosphere itself was relaxing!

My aesthetician started my sugaring treatment, and I was caught off guard (in a good way). Of course, I felt a little twinge from the hair removal, but it was nothing compared to waxing. I began asking myself, “Why did I ever put myself through waxing?!” I opted for a bikini wax, but ended up booking my legs, brows, and lip after my session. Sugaring is definitely the beauty secret I’d been missing, and I’m never turning back!

For this bathing suit season, I’m sticking to body sugaring!

I recently came to Alexandria’s for a Brazillian and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The results were so clean and the whole process were much less painful. Now, I’m super comfortable in my itty-bitty bikini bottom. So, if you’re thinking about making the switch from waxing to sugaring, I say do it!

Is this your first time dipping into hair removal?

Here’s what you need to know about sugaring. Thankfully, the paste is a super simple mixture of only three ingredients. It’s as simple as sugar, lemon and water. That’s it! There’s no additives. It is way more environmentally friendly are there are no cloth strips involved. This hair removing practice has also been around for centuries! Sugaring actually has roots in ancient Egypt and Middle Eastern cultures.

The cool thing about sugaring is that the sugaring paste only bonds to the individual hairs. It pulls your hair out right from the root. Therefore, it’s much kinder to the skin than waxing.

Here are the pro steps to body sugaring as performed by the experts!

The technician starts by cleaning the skin with a gentle cleanser. This may include ingredients like aloe, tea tree oil and witch hazel. Once complete, a powder is applied to the area to provide a protective barrier between the skin and the paste. They then warm up the paste in their hands, by molding it. This makes the paste much easier to work with. Next, they smooth the warm paste by rubbing it on to your skin against natural hair growth. Then, with a flick of the hand, they pull the hairs up with the paste. Using the same ball of paste, the technician molds the sugar throughout the treatment. This is repeated until the entire area is free of hair.

Unlike waxing sugaring only pulls out the hair and doesn’t adhere to the skin.  Whereas, hot wax attaches to the hair and the skin pulling skin cells. Waxing may causing inflammation, swelling, redness and possibly even bruising. You even take the risk of burns if the wax is too hot. Sugaring is way more gentle method of hair removal while still taking the hair right out at the root.

I can speak from my firsthand experience that there is far less irritation from sugaring.

After having my Brazilian wax, I broke out in red patchy bumps that took awhile to clear. By the time they did, I already had hair regrowth. From sugaring, I am able to enjoy the smoothness and avoid bumps or irritation. Overall, sugaring is a much gentler approach, and great for sensitive skin like mine. As far as pain level, it’s comparable to tweezing.

Tired of painful ingrown hairs?

Even though there’s no way to avoid ingrown hairs 100 per cent, sugaring may reduce this annoyance. Over time you may clean out dirt or skin cells that prevent your hair from growing normally. This may help keep those ingrown hairs at bay. When you remove the root, the follicle will have less blood supply to it overtime. In turn, the follicle may weaken. Ideally, this will encourage finer and sparser hair growth over time.

How to prepare yourself for sugaring for best results!

First, make sure your hair is long enough. ⅛ inch to ¼ inch is best. Emily Rekstis reported, “The hair is in an active growing cycle (anagen phase) of hair growth, and you’re most likely to get the root which will help in slowing down the regrowth.

This means you would want to schedule your sugaring appointments every four to five weeks. After you’ve been sugaring for a while and your hair starts coming in sparser, you can go longer between appointments.
Secondly, be sure to wear loose comfortable clothing. Especially, if you’re going for a Brazillian! Loose cotton panties, please.

After your appointment, there are a few things to avoid: no sex for 48 hours, avoid hot baths, working out make sure to keep the area clean and cool for the next couple of days.

If you take that dive into the world of sugaring you’ll like end up like me and many others and never go back to painful waxing or annoying shaving again!
