A simple guide to the prep and aftercare of body sugaring!
Let’s kick this off with the prep!
So, you’re getting ready for a weekend getaway at the beach. Sounds lovely! That said, we wouldn’t want a faulty wax job or some irritating stubble to mess up your plans. Follow this step-by-step sugaring prep guide to get the best out of your service so that your exciting plans will go smoothly!
It is best to do the following to prepare yourself for a body sugaring appointment:
The first step to great sugaring success is exfoliation.
It is important to exfoliate your skin to eliminate unwanted gunk, dead skin cells, and for maximum paste adhesion to your skin. Exfoliate the skin a minimum of two days before your appointment. For best results and comfort, do not exfoliate the day before, the day of, or the day after.
Next, it is important to ensure that you avoid using any moisturizers the day of your sugaring appointment.
This is to allow for the paste to properly smooth over your skin without any cross contamination. Additional moisture can change the consistency in the sugaring paste. Of course, this could effect the quality and efficacy of the products that we use. We want to ensure that our clients receive the same, dependable and safe experience at every visit. So, do avoid moisturizing before your appointment to allow for proper care.
You’re reading this right — No deodorant if you’re getting your under arms sugared!
Same thing does here, sugar. Deodorant contains ingredients that can possibly tamper with the composition of our sugaring paste. That is why it is important to show up deodorant-less on the day of your sugaring appointments. Remember, we are all beautiful, natural beings, and Sweet Secrets fully embraces our clients and their organic selves. Don’t worry about offending anyone here. We all go through it, too and we’re happy to have you!
For best results, hair should be at least a 1/4 of an inch long.
Of course, we need to make sure that there is a good amount of hair to lift off during your procedure. In order for the sugaring paste to work well, your hair should have growth of approximately 1/4 inch. It may be hard to put down the razor, but, once you try sugaring you’ll never go back. Be patient and know that we’re going to send you home with smooth, soft, hairless skin!
Just like the prep, it is important that these steps are followed for your post-sugaring aftercare for best results.
The following should be avoided 24 hours after sugaring:
- Do not exfoliate the skin for 48 hours after treatment
- Deodorant (if you had underarms sugared)
- Do not apply any scented lotions or creams
- Direct sunlight, tanning beds and infrared lamps
- Make-up (if you had face sugared)
- Heat (including saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga studios)
- Working out (skip the gym for the day)
- Touching, scratching or rubbing the treated area
It is very important to exfoliate and hydrate your skin following your hair removal treatment. Start exfoliating the skin two days after the sugaring treatment and every 2-3 days thereafter. To exfoliate, you can use a bristle body brush or nylon glove and move in a circular motion. For the more sensitive areas like the bikini or Brazilian, we like to recommend a natural coffee or sugar scrub. In addition, to keep skin hydrated, make sure to moisturize with a lotion or cream that is all-natural.
Do not use a razor to remove hairs in between appointments.
This is very important. Shaving may defeat the purpose of and decrease the potential benefits of body sugaring! Be patient and remember, from the process to the results, body sugaring is well worth the wait!
